Elaphe dione - Tiger

The first Tiger Dione Ratsnake, also known as Red Blotched was wild caught in North-eastern China and belongs to the Chersky complex. Tiger Dione Ratsnakes are characterized by a suffusion of red pigment, the degree of which is variable, the ventral scales are a clean orange/red  colour and lack all markings. The mode of inheritance is not yet fully understood.

Tiger Dione Ratsnakes were first bred by Tula Exotarium in Russia, from this line, Orange (Sunglow), Super Reds (Sunrise) and Lemons have been bred. Tiger Dione Ratsnakes are uncommon in the hobby with only a handful of keepers  working with these at present.

There are some lines of Dione Ratsnakes that have been selectively bred to enhance the red colouration, but unlike the ‘Tiger’ this is not a genetic trait
