Rhynchophis boulengeri

Rhino Ratsnakes were first brought into captivity in 1996, by a group of researchers (Tula Tula Exotarium - Russia, Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, , the Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto, Canada), University of Berkeley (California, USA), the Academy of Sciences of Vietnam and Laos. ) working in Vietnam and Laos.

The same year Tula Exotarium bred them for the first time in captivity. Most of the Rhino Ratsnakes in captivity in the UK and Europe are descendants from these.

Rob Stone from High Plain Herpetoculture, is actively working at diversifying the bloodlines of Rhino Ratsnakes in the U.S, and has several bloodlines. He has animals from both Vietnam and China.

We have 2.1 LTC (Long Term Captive) adults and a CB female from the Russian line, who exhibits alot of blue colouration. The blue colouration is not unusual in females, most will have some especially around the face and upper body.

Breeders in the states are selectively breeding to exacerbate the blue potential of females, producing some, that when adult are mostly blue with very little green.
